 Annual Fund Kick Off:

Supporter Luis Navarro made the first donation to the 2008 Annual Fund Drive with a generous check of $2,000 just before we went to press! We thank him for supporting our community service of printmaking arts & education programs.  We beat last year’s goal of $6,000. We have a record breaking year of outreach & exhibitions scheduled.

Help us raise our level of service to new heights in our new facility to better serve the arts & the community. Please send in the envelope with your donation now.

A Must-see Exhibition:  MYthOLOGIES: Victoria Goro Rapaport

is a stunning collection of large etchings & lithographs reflecting her background in the theater & growing up in the USSR in our gallery through January 19th.

 

PrintDance Collaboration with MoDaCo Lab Chooses Artist

            Artist Regina Sanders submitted the winning design for a set of 4 giant woodcuts to be printed on stage by dancers. Artists submitted a proposal of 4 sketches for the set of 4’x 8’ woodcuts.  The design interprets the art of dance. A committee of community representatives, choreographers & printmakers made the award.  This is funded by a District 8 Neighborhood Arts Program Grant.

Coming up: All in the Fibers: Artist’s Reception Thursday, Jan 31, 2008

            StoneMetal Press will highlight the creative work of artists show-casing printmaking techniques as the prominent element All in the Fibers curated by Jane Bishop. The show continues through March 21, 2008:

            Artists living in Texas are encouraged to enter work for consideration. 

Kids Classes in Printmaking

            Sign up now for kids art classes for ages 4 to 12. Papermaking for Kids, on Saturday, Feb 16, 10am – 12:30pm & Printmaking Fun, Saturday, Feb 23, 10am – 12:30pm.  Tuition including materials for either kids art class is $29.

            Two exciting art classes for youth will be held during Spring Break. The Young Picasso’s class for ages 7-12, & the Rembrandt Youth, for ages 11- 17.  Both groups will have the opportunity to work with screenprints, relief printing & papermaking. Tuition is $75 including material fees. Wed, Thur, Fri, March 19, 20 & 21. 10:00 to 12:00.

Youth over 12 years are eligible for most adult classes with coordinator’s approval.

Art Curriculum Delivered by Certified Art Instructors to Charter School

            Art Screenprints: Multicolor screenprints in the manner of Warhol will be produced in this 15 session class. Students develop the experience of studying a media and theme in depth over a period over time. Collaborative teams create team portraits as participants learn basic screenprinting techniques. Next , individual students autobiographical compositions explore the theme of “Positive Futures.” Using their own dreams for their successful futures, in-depth graphics composition are developed to  building technical arts skill. The hands-on activities & a compelling theme allow the participants to develop self-respect, creativity, interpersonal skills & discipline.

YuthCrue Celebrates First Year

The YuthCrue 2007 Exhibition Ceremony at the Cyndi Taylor Krier Correctional Treatment Center on December 5 celebrated the first year of StoneMetal’s Neighborhood Arts Program District 3. Funded by a grant from the City of San Antonio, Office of Cultural Affairs, on site classes in woodcut & screenprint inspired the youth who have been sentenced to the correctional facility to challenge themselves through the rigorous program.

   A 100 foot collaborative woodcut created by the Center youth & printed with a steamroller titled “Positive Futures” was displayed along with screenprints created by the Center youth. Ninety-six CTKCTCenter residents attended the exhibition
